Now that the employer tax submission season is over (pending the dealine), the individual tax season has already began as of 01 September 2008. This Filling Season opens for individuals, trusts and exempt institutions and the Deadline for manual submission of individual income tax returns is 21 November 2008 and 23 January 2009 for electronic submission of individual income tax returns (eFiling).
Take note that the first step in the process for taxpayers this year is to request a “customised”
return which only contains those income and deduction sections relevant to their tax affairs. From 01 September 2008, taxpayers choosing to file a manual (paper) return will be able to request their returns by:
• Posting back the Income Tax Return Request (ITRR) form mailed to taxpayers, or
• Calling SARS toll-free call centre number 0800 00 SARS (7277) where one can follow the voice prompts in making the request.
Tax is your responsibility, don't leave things in someone's hands!
